About Jill Meager
Wildlife and wild places are at the core of my art practice. I spent my early years roaming the countryside and coastlines of Scotland and the Western Isles, where the landscapes, the creatures, the light and the colours still inform much of my work.
I am best known for my single, larger than life portraits of animals and birds. But more recently I have been working on a collection of abstract paintings based on the locations I visit to find my wildlife subjects.
I studied languages at university and became passionate about communication in all its forms. Before becoming a professional artist, I worked as an actor (among other appearances, Miss Marple, Bergerac, Taggart, and even a James Bond film). I also worked as a stand-up comedian while studying at Putney School of Art and Design. I love telling stories through words and pictures, drawing out meaning and impact both in my art and in my work as a performance and speech coach.
