Beaver – the rewilding hero

A beaver is a vital part of any rewilding programme because of its role in flood management and by building dams, a beaver creates a series of pools, the by-product of which is that excess water is contained instead of breaking its banks. The dams are made by weaving branches together from the trees it fells with its large front teeth and although incredibly important, they are also quite hilarious creatures to look at.
